LESSON 2 · Love Starts With You
The Pattern You Cannot See
You keep choosing the same type of partner. The relationship starts well, follows a familiar arc, and ends in a familiar way. One clinical lens for this is repetition compulsion — a psychoanalytic idea that people may recreate familiar dynamics from childhood.
In that view, the unconscious may repeat an old wound as if it could finally master or repair it. The emotionally unavailable partner mirrors a distant parent. The controlling partner mirrors an overbearing one. The pattern can operate below awareness, which is why it feels like fate rather than choice. Recognizing it is the first step toward breaking free.
