LESSON 1 · The New Rules of Commitment

Choosing vs. Settling

One of the greatest commitment anxieties is the fear of settling. With infinite options, choosing one person can feel like closing every other door, so people keep cycling through relationships without deepening one.

The distinction is clear. Choosing means actively wanting the person in front of you, imperfections included. Settling means accepting someone you do not genuinely want because you fear being alone. The first is courageous; the second is unfair to both people.

Ask yourself: do I want this specific person, or anyone who meets a checklist? If the answer is this person — their laugh, their values, their way of being — you are choosing, and that is worth committing to fully.
