LESSON 4 · Break the Yelling Cycle

The 30-Second Protocol

Before you walk through the door (or before you leave your home office), do this:

  • 5 seconds: Close your eyes and take one long exhale
  • 10 seconds: Name the emotion you are carrying ("I feel drained" or "I'm anxious about that email")
  • 10 seconds: Set one intention for the evening ("I will be present for bedtime" or "I will not check my phone during dinner")
  • 5 seconds: Physically shake your hands and roll your shoulders to release tension

That is 30 seconds. It creates a psychological boundary between your work identity and your parent identity. This ritual works because it gives your brain a transition marker.
