Three Kinds of Consequence

Not every consequence works the same way:

• Natural — happens on its own: skip homework, get a zero
• Logical — you set it, but it fits the act: throw the toy, the toy goes away
• Punitive — unrelated to the act: talk back, lose dessert

Natural and logical consequences teach. Punitive ones only control — and that control vanishes the second you leave the room.
