Children name rules in concrete language: knock before entering, don't laugh when someone is sad, share the good snacks. Write their words down; concrete is what they can follow.

Before adding a rule, ask whether one you already have covers it. "Use kind words" can handle teasing, snapping, and tattling; a short list everyone remembers beats a long one nobody reads.
