LESSON 1 · Discipline Without Drama
The Misunderstanding Epidemic
Gentle parenting has become the most misunderstood approach in modern parenting. Critics say it means letting children do whatever they want, and some followers practice it that way by accident. But genuine gentle parenting is not permissive. It is a framework that combines firm limits with emotional warmth, and getting that combination right takes more skill, not less.
The confusion comes from the name. "Gentle" sounds soft and boundary-free. Here it means treating the child's emotional world with respect while keeping your authority as the parent, like a gentle veterinarian handling a frightened animal: firm grip, calm energy, clear purpose.
