LESSON 3 · Discipline Without Drama

Reclaiming the Word No

Some parents avoid saying no because they fear damaging the relationship. But "no" is one of the most powerful words in your vocabulary. It teaches limits, safety, and that the world does not revolve around one person's desires.

The problem is not the word "no." The problem is how it is delivered. A harsh, dismissive no feels like rejection. A respectful no feels like guidance. Same word, entirely different experience. Your job is to make no feel safe to hear, even when it is disappointing.
