LESSON 1 · Raise Resilient Kids

Resilience in Daily Life

You do not need a crisis to build resilience. Everyday moments are your training ground. When homework gets hard, sit nearby but do not do it for them: "This is hard. What have you tried so far?" Give them ten minutes to wrestle with it before you step in. When a friend hurts them, validate the pain without rescuing: "That hurts. You are going to be okay. What do you want to do about it?" Then let them decide. When they fail at something they cared about:

  • Do not minimize: "It is not a big deal" denies the feeling
  • Do not catastrophize: "This is terrible" amplifies the fear
  • Normalize: "Failing is part of getting good at something"
