Some studies associate heavy screen use in children with brain-structure differences in areas tied to attention, language, and self-control. These findings are correlational, so they should guide caution rather than panic.

The mechanism is attentional fragmentation. Fast-paced children's media cuts from scene to scene every few seconds, training the brain to expect constant novelty. When real life cannot match that pace, boredom and restlessness follow.
