The Fairness Conversation

Children constantly monitor fairness. The trap: trying to give everyone exactly equal everything. This is impossible and teaches that love is a limited resource to be divided.

Use the language: "In this family, everyone gets what they need. Right now, your sister needs more help with homework. When you need something extra, you'll get it too." This teaches needs-based fairness rather than mathematical equality — a far more useful life skill.
