What Not to Do
Do not fill their silence with your anxiety. Resist the monologue: lectures about how you are worried, how they used to talk to you, how communication matters.

Do not punish silence. Taking away privileges because your teenager will not talk teaches them that emotional vulnerability is mandatory — the exact opposite of what builds trust. Model openness by sharing your own day, your own struggles, your own feelings — without requiring reciprocation.
