Make Yourself Unnecessary

Every other parenting goal serves this one: raising someone who can run their own life without you.

Independence is built, not switched on. Start transferring real responsibility around 14 or 15, while there is still time and a safety net. Hand over a small budget and let them feel a shortfall. Put them in charge of one family dinner a week. Make their own schedule their problem, not yours. Each handoff says the same thing: I believe you can do this.
