LESSON 1 · What Your Body Actually Needs

Three Fuels Your Body Needs

Most food calories you eat come from three macronutrients: protein, carbohydrates, or fat. Alcohol also provides energy, but it is not an essential nutrient. Macros are the raw materials your body uses to build muscle, power your brain, and keep your organs running.

Protein rebuilds tissue, from muscles to skin to immune cells. Carbohydrates are your brain's preferred fuel and your muscles' go-to energy during intense activity. Fat protects organs, carries vitamins, and produces hormones. None of these are villains.
