LESSON 4 · Sleep Like Your Life Depends On It

Temperature Controls Sleep

Your core body temperature must drop by about 1-1.5°C to start sleep, which is why a cool room — around 65-68°F — speeds up sleep onset.

A warm bath or shower before bed helps, oddly enough. The warm water draws blood to your skin, and once you step out, the rapid heat loss drops your core temperature faster than normal.

Bedding matters more than people realize. Memory foam traps heat, while latex and innerspring designs breathe better. Cotton or linen sheets beat polyester, and weighted blankets help many sleepers — just pick a cooling version.
