The healthiest microbiomes are usually the most diverse ones. More bacterial species means more backup systems, more specialized jobs, and better resilience.

The Western diet — high in sugar, refined grains, and processed food — feeds a narrow range of bacteria and starves the beneficial species that thrive on fiber. Antibiotics can wipe out whole populations of helpful bacteria. When it comes to rebuilding this ecosystem, consistency matters more than intensity.
