LESSON 1 · Your Gut: The Hidden Brain
Why Diversity Protects You
Microbial diversity — the sheer number of different species in your gut — is one of the strongest predictors of overall health. People with diverse microbiomes tend to have lower rates of obesity, autoimmune disease, and mental health disorders.
The reason is resilience. A varied community has backups: if illness or antibiotics knock out one group of bacteria, others can step in to cover its jobs. A thin, lopsided microbiome has no such safety net.
There is no single ideal microbiome to copy. The goal is your own richest, most varied version — one that can keep doing its work even when life throws it off balance.
