LESSON 4 · Nutrition Myths Busted

The Nutrition Question

Is organic food more nutritious? The evidence is mostly no:

  • A Stanford meta-analysis of 237 studies found no strong evidence that organic food is significantly more nutritious than conventional
  • Pesticide residues are lower on organic produce, but conventional residues are typically well below safety thresholds
  • Some organic produce shows modestly higher antioxidant levels, likely because plants stressed without synthetic protection make more defensive compounds

The health benefits of eating more fruits and vegetables dwarf any difference between organic and conventional. Skipping produce because you cannot afford organic is far worse than eating conventional.
