LESSON 3 · Exercise Science 101
Mobility for Life
Three areas cause most everyday mobility trouble: the ankle, hip, and thoracic spine (the upper back). When one is stiff, the body borrows movement from somewhere it shouldn't.
Restricted ankles force the knees to compensate during squats and walking. Tight hips pull on the lower back. A stiff upper back overloads the neck and shoulders.
Spend 5-10 minutes a day on these three and you will head off most problems. Ankle circles, 90/90 hip switches, and thoracic rotations done consistently deliver far more than an occasional hour-long yoga class.
