LESSON 5 · Exercise Science 101
Tracking Without Obsessing
Measuring progress maintains motivation, but the wrong metrics create discouragement. Track performance, not just appearance. Recording that you squatted 5kg more than last month is motivating. Staring at your body in the mirror daily is demoralizing.
Keep a simple training log noting exercises, weights, reps, and how you felt. Over months, this log reveals patterns invisible in the moment — gradual strength gains, energy shifts with sleep quality, and the consistency streaks that built your current fitness.
Take progress photos monthly, not daily or weekly. Body composition changes slowly — about 0.5kg of muscle a month is a realistic best case for a beginner, and the pace slows considerably as you gain experience.
