The Compatibility Test

Before any piece enters your capsule, it must pass the compatibility test: can it work with at least five other items you already own? If it can only pair with one or two things, it is a wardrobe island that adds volume without adding versatility.

A red floral blouse might be beautiful, but if it only pairs with your dark jeans and nothing else, it fails the test. A navy Breton tee that works with jeans, trousers, under a blazer, with a skirt, and tucked into shorts passes with flying colors.
