Chemical vs. Mineral Options

Chemical sunscreens absorb UV rays and convert them to heat. They spread easily, feel lightweight, and work well under makeup. Common ingredients include avobenzone and oxybenzone.

Mineral sunscreens use zinc oxide or titanium dioxide to physically block UV rays. They work immediately upon application and are less likely to irritate sensitive skin. The tradeoff is a slightly heavier texture. Modern mineral formulas have improved dramatically, with micronized particles.
