LESSON 2 · Style Rules for Men

The Upgrade Path

When a basic finally wears out, treat it as a chance to trade up, not just replace. Work through shoes, outerwear, trousers, shirts, then accessories — roughly the order of visual impact and how long each piece lasts.

Good shoes survive years and get noticed first; good outerwear frames every outfit. Replace each worn-out piece with the best version you can afford, and an average wardrobe quietly becomes an excellent one.
