LESSON 4 · Stop the Bite

Redirect, Do Not Punish

When the puppy bites your hand, swap it for a rope toy or rubber chew. Hold the toy out, let the puppy grab it, and praise warmly when it does. The message is clean: skin is off-limits, toys are open season.

Keep toys within arm's reach everywhere — pockets, side tables, beside the couch. Caught empty-handed? Freeze your hand (pulling away starts the chase) and wait for the release, then offer a toy.

Never let your hands be the toy: no wrestling, no finger-mouthing games.
