LESSON 1 · Potty Training Done Right
Carpet You Cannot Lift
Bare floors are easy. The hard part is the carpet that is glued down, the stairs, and the bedroom you can't strip.
For those zones, shrink the dog's world. During retraining, give them the run of hard-floored rooms only, and gate off the carpeted ones.
When you must cross carpet, keep the dog on a short leash clipped to your belt. A tethered dog stays in your sightline, so a sniff-and-circle gets interrupted before it becomes a puddle. Freedom is the reward you give back later, one room at a time, once the new habit holds.
