LESSON 2 · The Trust Bond
Breaking Your Own Bad Habits
Improving your dog starts with improving yourself. The hardest part of training is changing human behavior, not canine behavior. Most owners repeat the same mistakes daily without seeing the pattern.
Be consistent — the same rules apply every day, with every family member, in every situation. When the rules keep changing, your dog cannot tell which ones are real.
Support fear without flooding it. Use a calm voice, create distance, and reward brave choices instead of dragging the dog closer or repeatedly scooping them away. Comfort is not the problem; pressure and panic are. Let your dog work through small, safe challenges rather than rescuing them from every one.
