Emotional Inconsistency
Dogs need emotional predictability from their humans. An owner who is affectionate one moment and irritable the next creates a dog that is chronically anxious, because they cannot predict what response their behavior will get. Consistency in your reactions matters as much as consistency in your cues.
When your mood decides the rules, your dog does not learn "sometimes this is okay." They learn that their world is unpredictable, which is a primary source of anxiety in dogs. Pick a rule and stick with it, whatever kind of day you are having.
