The Power of Replacement Behaviors

Instead of punishing jumping, teach an incompatible behavior like sitting. A dog cannot sit and jump at the same time. Reward the sit heavily and consistently.

The same fix works for almost any problem. Dog barking at the window? Teach a recall to a mat. Dog pulling on leash? Reward loose leash walking. Dog counter surfing? Reward four feet on the floor near the kitchen. Replace, do not suppress.
