When Barking Goes Long
Some barking is not a quick alert at all — it runs on and on with a steady, almost rhythmic beat. This is usually boredom or loneliness barking, and it often shows up when the dog is left alone with nothing to do.
The cause is different, so the fix is too. Punishing it does nothing, because there is no trigger to remove. What helps is a dog that is genuinely tired and occupied: real exercise before you leave, plus a food puzzle or chew to work on while you are gone. A drained, busy dog has little reason to bark at the silence.
