When It Backfires

Most owners quit right before it works. Two traps cause it:

• The extinction burst — when ignoring first kicks in, the jumping often gets worse for a bit. The dog is trying harder, not winning. Hold steady; this spike is the sign it's working.
• The accidental peek — one glance, one giggle, one "ugh, stop" mid-jump resets the whole lesson. To the dog, you blinked, so it pays to keep trying.

Stay boring through the burst and silent through the test, and the behavior fades.
