Enforced Nap Time

Puppies and young dogs need enforced naps just like toddlers. A puppy that has been awake for ninety minutes is heading toward overstimulation. Settle them somewhere quiet with a chew toy and they will usually fall asleep within minutes.

Adult dogs benefit from structured alone time too. A dog that can settle in a crate or gated room while you work is practicing a valuable skill. Start with short intervals and build gradually toward longer periods of calm independence.
