Children and Dogs

Children are the most challenging strangers for dogs because they move unpredictably, make sudden loud noises, and often grab at the dog. Teach children the statue method: stand still with arms at their sides and let the dog approach.

Supervise every interaction between dogs and children under twelve. Well-socialized dogs have stress thresholds that children cross without realizing. Watch for lip licking, yawning, and turning away — the early warning signs that precede a snap.
