The Lure Method

Hold a treat right at your dog's nose. Slowly move it back over their head, toward their tail. Their nose tips up to follow it — and as the head goes up, the rear has nowhere to go but down. Gravity does the work for you.

Now make the exact same motion with an empty hand. No treat showing. If your dog follows the gesture and sits, mark it and reward from your other hand or your pocket.
