The Three Rules

Protect recall with three rules: say it once, never punish a dog who arrives, and never use the cue for something unpleasant. Arrival must always feel worth it.

Want fast, joyful recalls? Make it a game. Two people sit a few steps apart, each with treats. Take turns calling the dog back and forth, and throw a little party every time they arrive — treats, praise, a happy voice.
