The Foundation Drill

Put a treat in your fist and wait through licking or pawing. The moment the dog backs off, mark "yes" and feed from the other hand: pestering loses, restraint pays.

Once your dog turns away from your fist on the first try, raise the difficulty.

Drop a treat on the floor and cap it with your flat hand. Same deal — when they stop trying and look away, mark and reward from your other hand.
