Adding the Cue

Once your dog turns away reliably, say "leave it" just before presenting the temptation. Then raise difficulty slowly: kibble, cheese, meat, toy, rolling ball.

Your living room is quiet. The sidewalk is a buffet.

Start outdoor reps with the boring stuff — a leaf, a stick, a dropped wrapper. Cue "leave it" and pay well when your dog checks in with you instead. Slowly raise the stakes from there.
