Your Drop-It Training Plan

Drop it is a safety command every dog needs. A reliable drop prevents choking, poisoning, and the chase-and-grab games that make stolen items more exciting.

Two rules carry the whole plan:

• Trade, do not take. Offer a better treat, mark the release, and return the item when it is safe.
• Never chase for a stolen item unless it is immediately dangerous. Chasing turns grabbing into a thrilling game. Trade calmly or walk away to remove the audience.
