Train on every walk, not just in set sessions. Carry treats on every outing for the first month or so.

Not every walk should be a training walk. Give your dog both kinds.

• Sniff walks are decompression. On a long line, the dog leads and explores at their own pace, feeding their sensory needs.
• Functional walks are for exercise and getting from A to B. A front-clip harness keeps things manageable.
