Catching the First Paw

Hold a treat in your closed fist at your dog's chest height. They will lick and nudge the fist, get nowhere, then try a paw. The moment that paw lifts and touches your hand, say "yes" and open up to feed.

Once the paw lands on your fist reliably, change the target. Open your hand flat and offer your bare palm at the same height.
