Teaching a dog to bark on purpose sounds backwards — why invite more noise? Here's the flip: a bark on command is a bark you own.

Dogs split into two camps here. Some are easy barkers — you barely have to ask, you just catch the bark and name it. Others are naturally quiet and need a spark first: a doorbell sound, a knock, or a toy bounced just out of reach to build the arousal that finally spills into a bark worth rewarding.
