Biology Meets Math

A neural network is a computing system loosely inspired by the human brain. It consists of layers of interconnected nodes, each performing a simple mathematical operation. Individually, each node is trivial.

Despite the name, artificial neural networks bear little resemblance to actual brains. A single biological neuron can form thousands of connections and communicates through electrochemical signals, not arithmetic.
