Phishing is the practice of sending fraudulent messages — usually emails, texts, or calls — that appear to come from a trusted source to trick you into revealing sensitive information.

Modern phishing is sophisticated. In 2020, Twitter was hacked not through code but through phone calls — attackers called employees pretending to be IT support and convinced them to hand over credentials.
