The Evolution of Phishing

Phishing is evolving with AI at alarming speed. AI-generated phishing emails can mimic a specific person's writing style by analyzing their public posts, crafting personalized lures that are nearly impossible to distinguish from the real thing.

Deepfake voice phishing is a proven threat. In 2019, criminals cloned a CEO's voice using AI and called the company's UK subsidiary, ordering a $243,000 wire transfer. The employee complied because the voice sounded exactly like his boss. In 2024, a finance worker at a Hong Kong firm paid out $25 million after a video call where every participant except him was a deepfake.

The defense must evolve too.
