The physical internet is more impressive than the virtual one:

• Internet Exchange Points are buildings where hundreds of networks physically connect, like Grand Central Station for data packets
• Submarine cable landing stations are heavily guarded facilities where undersea cables connect to terrestrial networks
• US cell sites now number in the hundreds of thousands, each connecting wireless devices to the wired backbone.
