LESSON 2 · Tomorrow's Tech Today
Blockchain's trust mechanism enables applications beyond cryptocurrency:
- Supply chain tracking — Walmart traces food from farm to shelf in seconds, critical for safety recalls
- Digital identity — self-sovereign identity lets you prove who you are without a central authority
- Voting pilots — blockchains can make records publicly auditable, but ballot secrecy, coercion, malware, and endpoint security make public elections much harder than simple tamper-proof voting
- Intellectual property — immutable timestamps proving when works were created
In each case, the value is strongest when multiple parties need a shared record that no single party can quietly rewrite.
