Rockets and Recoil

Rockets work in space where there's nothing to push against. This confuses people, but Newton's Third Law clears it up instantly.

A gun works the same way. The bullet flies forward, the gun kicks backward. Both experience the same force, but the bullet is light and the gun is heavy, so the bullet accelerates far more. Every rocket launch and every squid jetting through water follows this third-law logic.
