Two Flavors of Current
Direct Current (DC) flows in one direction, like water through a straight pipe. Batteries produce DC. Your phone runs on DC. It's simple and reliable.

Why would anyone want current that keeps changing direction? Because AC has a superpower that DC lacks: you can easily change its voltage using a transformer. Step voltage up for long-distance transmission, step it down for safe home use. That flexibility won the current wars.
