His cosmological constant
In 1917, Einstein added a term called lambda to keep his equations from predicting an expanding universe. When Hubble showed the universe does expand, Einstein abandoned it. Dark energy later revived lambda. He is often quoted as calling it his 'biggest blunder,' though that line survives only secondhand and may not be his exact words.
