Your Bacterial Army
Before your immune system fully develops, gut bacteria serve as your primary defense force. They occupy every available surface in the intestines, leaving no room for dangerous pathogens to gain a foothold — a strategy called colonization resistance that stops most infections before they begin.

Beneficial bacteria also produce bacteriocins — natural antibiotics that kill competing harmful species. These compounds punch holes in the membranes of rival cells, draining them until they collapse. Your resident microbes wage constant chemical warfare against invaders, keeping the territory firmly in friendly hands.
