LESSON 1 · Secrets Your Body Keeps

Chronic Pain Rewires You

When pain persists beyond tissue healing, the nervous system itself changes. Neurons become sensitized, firing pain signals at lower thresholds. Eventually, gentle touch, mild warmth, or even emotional stress can trigger severe pain responses.

This is why chronic pain is so difficult to treat — the original injury may have healed completely, but the pain circuits have been physically rewired. The alarm system itself is broken, ringing continuously even when no threat exists.
