LESSON 1 · The DNA Blueprint

Genes Load The Gun

Some genetic variants only matter under the right conditions. One much-discussed example is MAOA, where some studies have linked low-activity variants with higher aggression risk mainly after severe childhood maltreatment. The effect is debated and far from destiny: behavior is shaped by many genes, many experiences, and chance.

This is the pattern everywhere: genes can shift risk, but environment helps decide which risks matter. Neither one acts alone.

Knowing someone's full DNA still cannot tell you who they will become. The very same genes lead to different outcomes in different lives, because biology is always a conversation between a person and their world.

Nature and nurture were never rivals. Every trait you have is the result of the two working on each other, every day, from the womb onward.
